Homecoming
It is believed that once a year the Hindu goddess Durga comes to her mother's home on Earth with her four children, Ganesh, Laxmi, Karthik and Saraswati. Durga Puja is a celebration of her homecoming, and marks the victory of good over evil. The festivities last for five days, and on the sixth day she starts on her journey back to her husband Shiva's abode in the mountain kingdom of Kailash, with the immersion of her idol in the holy waters. Homecoming is a personal project to trace this journey. It began in a temple compound in Delhi where a group of artists spent months making beautiful Durga idols, followed by the celebrations at large makeshift structures called pandals. The journey ends with a grand farewell at the riverbank, where thousands of people come together to see her off.
